How marvelous to find such a wonderful XJ6 - never restored & never required such either. Maintained beautifully and on the button - we have driven her recently on A, B and Motorways - so can testify to that!!
Finished in carriage brown and delightful biscuit leather interior, she has had three keepers since new - although the first 2 were mother and son, so really one family owner initially until 2013 and one other since then
Mrs Beatrice Bowley ordered her new from her local official Jaguar dealership and kept her as her pride and joy (clearly as the bodywork and underside were treated with 'rust shielding' by 3M Rust Shield protection, hence her original condition)
Sadly by 1999 became too old to drive, but couldn’t bear to part with her, so parked her up in the garage until in 2011 at which time, Nicholas Bowley took over ownership. He did a little commissioning with a local garage prior to an MOT that she then past without any advisories.
She has her original book pack, service voucher booklet and original tool roll & jack.
Purchased by our friend and current owner in 2013, he added her to his superlative collection and straight away organised a specialist to strip and recover the headlining which now appears like new, with the car itself being completely original, other than this.
With just under 56, 000 miles it is in quite remarkable condition. Motoring journalists in the ‘70s referred the XJ series as “the finest Jaguar ever” - a superb accreditation for founder Sir William Lyons who over saw the XJ series towards the end of his career
Housing the 4. 2, rather than the smaller engines offered, it provides plenty of reaction when the right foot is applied. These Jaguar 6 cylinder engines so well made, hence they were used for very many years hence.
When new the XJ 4. 2 was rather expensive at £10. 000 as the average house price was £15, 000 (today this is £248. 000 so in todays' society the XJ 4. 2 would cost £163. 000!!!).
She is a ready to go, time-warp Jaguar with a lovely little story, and some super extras like Sundym glass, electric windows, full leather interior, radio cassette (£196 at the time), chrome pressed wheels with original type Dunlop SP sport tyres.
