It is sadly time to sell my prized 1977 Porsche SC. A very early UK car, built late in 1977 as a 1978 model year car, this would have been one of the first RHD SCs.
I purchased the car in February 2016 from BRDC (British Racing Drivers Club) member Jon Fletcher. This car was campaigned in the hotly contested Pirelli and BF Goodridge Porsche Production race series in the 1990s by Jon, occasionally sharing the car with other racers such as Mike Jordan. The car comes with a thick folder of period images and race results. The car was regularly up the front of the pack.
Upon my purchase of the car it was taken to marque specialist Autofarm for a check over and given a clean bill of health. The car comes with a folder of period images and race results where the car was regularly up the front of the pack beating faster cars.
With a service and a fresh set of tyres the car was swiftly put in to service, the car was driven on the 10th anniversary GT Spirit tour down to Zagreb in Croatia. On the way back the engine failed, later traced back to historical fabric material that had blocked the oil lines.
The car was taken to Porsche specialists Octane Garage in Crowborough where a full engine rebuild took place. At the same time the underside of the car and arches were stripped down and sprayed with a protective coating. The total bill for all work was just under £15, 000. This work was completed in June 2017. I have the full invoice breakdown for this. The engine was built as standard but with the addition of 964 cams to give a little more bite and pulls very well.
Once run in, the car was enjoyed on driving tours and displayed at events before the opportunity arose to convert the body to 3. 0RS style. I purchased EB Motorsport rear wings, replica front and rear bumpers, and front arches, plus an original and rare Porsche rear wing with rubber tip.
These panels were prepped and fitted. All panels are glassfibre.
The car was then stripped down, minor dents and repairs were made to the ex race car. The interior was sprayed black as per period race cars (previously white). The exterior was sprayed satin silver with contrasting orange bumpers. A set of three-piece Nori wheels were manufactured in Italy, 15x9 on the front and 15x11 on the rear. The tyres are Pirelli P7 Corsa Classic and have recently been replaced, with just a few hundred miles on them. Body work and wheels totalled over £20, 000.
Once completed the car was sent to a specialist in Hampshire to be hand painted in a unique replica livery of the 14th place finisher Freres Ravenel who came 4th in class in the IMSA category at the 1977 Le Mans. To complete the car the exhaust is a custom finished DANSK item and the car designed with the look of a period 3. 0 RS race car. The car passes noise regulations at Goodwood on a loud day but most importantly sounds fantastic.
Recently serviced and with bills totalling £3, 000 in the last the car is presented as ‘ready to go’. To complete the car for more regular use the passenger side window needs a window mechanism adding. This was removed for racing. The car would also benefit from 1st and 2nd gear synchromesh but drives well as is.
I have priced the car accordingly. Any road tests will be conducted by myself unless proof of insurance can be shown. A drivers licence scan with current address will also need to be provided in advance of any viewings.
