Description
VW Golf GTI Mk5 Edition 30
SPARES OR REPAIR
Sold ‘as is’ in non-running condition for spares or repair due to a recent engine failure following low oil pressure. Metal particles were found in the oil filter but further investigation will of course be required by the new keeper. This is reflected in the price.
Following Volkswagen's successful 20th anniversary edition GTI in1996, and the 25th anniversary GTI in 2001, Volkswagen marked the GTI’s 30th anniversary by producing the GTI Edition 30. Due to strong demand, 2280 cars were eventually built with a small number continuing into the 2009 model year.
The changes over the standard production model included a modified engine that produced an extra 30hp more than the standard 200hp version, giving rumour that it was faster in the dry and more powerful than the R32. Slight changes to the bodywork included body coloured side skirts and Votex front spoiler, colour-keyed rear bumper, and tinted rear lights from the R32. Changes to the interior included a return for the golf ball shaped gear knob and silver "Edition 30" sill plates. Edition 30 seats were also decked out in the distinctive red stitching on Vienna leather and Interlagos fabric mix. Red stitching was also added to the leather-covered steering wheel. Finally, the Edition 30 sat on 18-inch BBS 'Pescara' alloy wheels.
This 115k mile example is finished in timeless Reflex Silver metallic. The bodywork remains to a great standard throughout, with relatively few blemishes to report for the age and mileage. Being an Edition 30 the exterior features front and rear spoilers, side skirts, lower suspension, and a colour-keyed rear bumper. This one is car number 845.
Inside, the GTI sports seats are upholstered in unique Edition 30 ‘Interlagos’ cloth with leather bolsters, all presenting in good order with only some expected wear to the driver’s bolster. The footwell carpets are protected by a set of genuine Golf rubber mats.
The original 18-inch BBS Pescara alloy wheels retain the correct paint finish and the front tyres were replaced in June 2019. Other recent mechanical works include new front springs, a new AC condenser, and the car’s 10th service that was carried out in January 2020. It has seen just 5 keepers in total.
Equipment includes: Dual digital climate control, Heated front sport seats with height and lumbar adjustment, Height and reach adjustable steering wheel, Additional storage compartment in roof console, Alarm, Automatic driving lights, Rain sensor, Automatic dimming interior rear-view mirror, Electrically heated and adjustable door mirrors, Electric front and rear windows, Front fog lights, ‘Edition 30’ door sill covers, GTI gear knob with golf ball design, Leather trimmed three-spoke steering wheel with red stitching and GTI logo, Spare key.
