This car is now going to be auctioned by H&H classics on there live online auction on the 24th of March - If you are interested, please visit there website and take part in the auction on the 24th.
Restored over a four year period and finished in 2016. Only covered 500 miles since being finished, always garaged and never used in the rain or on salted roads.
Started as an already fairly decent (by 40+ year old escort standards) 1300 sport.
Stripped to a bare shell and fully sand blasted, the shell was restored by respected escort specialist South West Resto's. Everything that needed to be done was done properly, including new sills, front wings, arches and all the usual, but is now truly immaculate and 'factory fresh'
The shell was professionally painted inside, outside and underside by Custom and Classic to an incredibly high standard – You will struggle to find a better Mk1 Escort shell.
Engine – low mileage 2. 0 Zetec with Retro Ford sump, water rail, alternator, exhaust manifold, flywheel, clutch etc. All checked over and serviced with new water pump, cam belt, tensioners etc. Running on Webber Alpha – twin 40s but with 3D/ coil pack ignition using a throttle position sensor. All correctly set up, starts and idles perfectly, incredibly well mannered and pulls nice and strong.
Fitted with the Burton BDA/ RS1600 style rocker cover to really look the part and confuse people.
Re-cored big tank radiator and electric fan – no problems staying cool.
Transmission – fully rebuilt 5 speed type 9 gearbox with Burton 1st gear conversion (gives a nicer spread of ratios), like most the car, has only covered 500 miles. Rebuilt 3. 54 RS differential, new rear wheel bearings/ seals.
Suspension – fully rebuilt Bilstein struts, lowered RS springs, new top mounts, bottom arms, wheel bearings and 'twin cam' anti roll bar. New De-cambered single leaf rear springs and new rear shocks. All new super flex bushes throughout.
Brakes – New m16 calipers and 2. 8 capri vented front discs, and new brake lines, braided flexible hoses, master cylinder, servo and wheel cylinders.
Interior – 6 clock RS dash, new door panels, carpets and headlining. New period style Contour front seats with 'Drivers' and 'Navigators' (passenger) seats (intentionally different for that reason and a 'group 1' option back in the day if you fancied yourself as a bit of a rally driver!) rear seat trimmed with new matching cover.
