Model History:
The Japanese counterpart to the Jeep CJ is called the Toyota Land Cruiser J4. As a short diesel BJ40, the Japanese still toils in some regions today.
SUV drivers and everyone who cannot live without the convenience of modern car manufacturing are frightened on board of a BJ40. In 1976 the first versions got disc brakes on the front axle, in 1979 Toyota adapted the axle ratio to driving on the motorway. Power steering was only available at an additional cost in 1981, 21 years after the J4 was launched! There is therefore no driving comfort, the BJ40 hops and stalks over the asphalt. Whoever turns at the wheel doesn't need any training at the gym. But everything on board is practically indestructible and can still be operated even decades later. The box frame with mighty side members, the solid rigid axles and the all-wheel drive with reduction ensure that the term obstacle slowly disappears from the owner's vocabulary.
