Morris 1000 (Betsy): Recent Refurb/ 3 Owners
The Morris 1000, designed by a team led by Alec Issigonis, debuted at the 1948 Earls Court motor show. The small family saloon was perfect for post war families and quickly became an iconic vehicle that was exported all around the world. Over 1. 3 million were manufactured before production ceased in 1972 and today good examples are the perfect entry point for those new to classic car ownership.
On 17th October 1959 Miss L Mathias (a nurse at the County Hospital) collected her brand-new Morris 1000 saloon from W. Lawrence, the main Austin/ Morris Garage in Hereford at the cost of £630-14s-7d. It was not her first car (she traded-in her four-year-old Austin A30) and Lilian would go on to keep her pride and joy until 1982 when sold after a period of time in storage
The second owner, an NHS doctor, restored Betsy around ten years ago (corrosion removed, replacement panels and mechanical overhaul costing £9. 000) retaining her until 2020 when sold through lack of use for a new keeper to use and enjoy.
Purchased by a regular Milestones customer she is now regretfully being sold due to a change of circumstances.

Betsy goes as good as she looks, starting on the button and driving along smoothly with characteristic Morris 1000 “purp” guaranteed to bring a smile to your face.
The large history file contains original Bill of Sale, service invoices from new, details of restoration, handwritten record of all fuel purchased over the last 30 years, driver’s handbook, original maintenance service voucher book, old MOT’s & invoices.
The early 1000 saloons with banjo steering wheel, happy-slappy windscreen wipers, flashing rear indicators, leather interior etc are highly desirable and we anticipate that Betsy will find a new home to take her on new adventures very quickly.
