A 170 bhp 3-litre engine, combined with a stunning lightweight body on a tubular chassis is all it takes to give the driver of this TVR a huge grin on his face!
This very original TVR S3C in beautiful Mica Blue with grey leather is a timeless design. After the love or hate it eighties wedges , TVR picked up the threads of the seventies M series and the S series was born. This new model clearly carried on with the bloodline of its ancestors and even harked back to the first Grantura. As opposed to the likes of the sharp-edged Tasmin and derivatives, the S series was an evolution of the species, rather than a revolution. The S3C is a great example of the true TVR spirit: a lightweight sportster packed with brute force!
Our S3C was first delivered in Surrey by TVR dealer Fernhurst who took care of maintenance during the next decade. This is confirmed by a stamped maintenance booklet. The car was sparingly used throughout its life and led a sheltered life when other cars had to work hard for their pay. Currently, it has only covered 39141 miles, which is again confirmed by plenty of old MOT’s , carefully kept in a thick folder.
Mechanically, this TVR is in very good condition. The torquey 3-litre Ford V6 also loves to rev and this is accompanied by a lovely snarl. Apart from recently receiving a major overhaul to the brakes, the clutch and cooling system, it was treated to fresh oil and coolant. Again, this is all confirmed by a stack of invoices totalling thousands in the last few years. On top of this, tires and exhaust are new.
As TVRs are clothed in fibreglass, rust to the body is no issue. But, as afficionados will know, chassis were not very well protected when new and very vulnerable to rust. This S3C had work done to the chassis only one or two years ago. In fact, the work was done very professionaly as the body was lifted off to do the repairs and protection. This invoiced work now gives this car a new lease of life. There is no crazing to the body and the Mica Blue paint seems to be nearly 100 percent factory original. It has a nice shine to it, together with a lovely patina, confirming the love and care this car received throughout its life. We were surprised by the quality of the fibreglass after nearly 30 years.
Our car has a very clean interior, maybe one of the weak spots in some TVRs. The lovely woodrim steering wheel and optional full leather are still in good condition.
