Garelli KL100 Cross. Based on the Tiger Cross moped but a much better and more useable machine, These were 80cc (not 100c. c) so produced about 9. 5 hp compared to 6. 2hp of the 50 c. c moped. The KL100 is much more in the mould of modern day bikes. i. e gear change is on the left (moped was on the right), 5 speeds (as apposed to mopeds 4 speeds), has a kick start (instead of those stupid pedals) and also has the benefit of electronic ignition (moped having points).
Other than that the bikes are pretty similar. I bought this to re-live my youth. I have used it but not as much as I thought I would. The bike was rebuilt a few years ago but is still in excellent condition, as can be seen from the photos. Rides lovely and makes all the right noises from that Dellorto carb. Bike has only 89 miles on it so not fully run-in yet (about 300 miles). The bike is 46 yrs old this year. Registered as Historic, therefore no Tax and MOT required. Always receives admiring glances. Everyone wants to talk about the Garelli, FS1E's, Fantics, AP50's etc.. because they had or some friend had one in the 70's. These bikes are very rare now. Rarer than the moped. A recent "How many left" search produced a figure of 3 with an mot. A great little bike for those fun days out.
