EXTERIOR
This low mileage facelift W114 has been treated to a full cosmetic refresh in recent years. All exterior chrome trims were replaced with genuine items sourced directly from Mercedes, including the hubcaps. The rust-free underside was also undersealed to preserve the original floor pans and metal work. On closer inspection the glossy paintwork still presents to a good standard although some bubbling has begun to show through in a few small areas. All the panels remain straight and true, the car still boasting that classic Mercedes feel when opening the doors and boot.
INTERIOR
The interior has worn extremely well over the last 47 years with no rips or tears to the original MB-Tex upholstery. Even commonly worn items such as the steering wheel, walnut dash and centre console appear in fantastic original condition. The Palomino-coloured carpets look great in the footwells and show no signs of any major wear. Pleasingly all the electrics work just as they should including the 3-speed heater fan and heated rear screen.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
The 250’s 2778cc straight-six is as smooth as ever having just undergone a full carb tune up and service including spark plugs, filters, and oil. The 4-speed auto ‘box is equally smooth, the engine pulling well through every gear. Being a very solid car, the engine is quiet at high speeds and idles beautifully when driven around town.
WHEELS, TYRES AND BRAKES
The wheels are shod in a new and matching set of Continental 175/ 80/ 14 tyres which hold well in both wet and dry conditions. The brakes are also as good as new, the front calipers having recently been rebuilt with all new seals and pistons, and a new brake servo fitted. The hubcaps are in equally fine condition with no marking to report.
HISTORY FILE
This UK-supplied facelift W114 2. 8 250 was first registered in October 1974. The odometer reads just 38k miles and the V5C shows only 3 former keepers. The History File is complete with the original Mercedes document wallet, owner’s manuals, factory data cards, original sales brochures, past MOT certificates and a raft of maintenance invoices.
