When the XK150 was launched in 1957 it marked the panicle of Jaguar’s post war, separate chassis, sports cars. More of a grand tourer then either its predecessors or indeed the later E Type, the car never the less featured a modern rack and pinion steering system which greatly improved the driving experience and to this days the cars are a delight to drive.
PSK731 left Jaguar’s Browns Lane plant in Coventry ion the 6th of February 1959 bound for New York. Sold by Jaguar Cars of New York the car passed through just two owners over the next nearly 30 years.
Our car was then purchased by a Mr Leiman in the mid 1980’s. After some restoration work and presumably use of the car by Mr Leiman, in 1994 the car arrived with us here at CMC for a full ground up restoration of the car. Refinished in its original body colour of Imperial Maroon, the car was treated to a complimenting red interior. The result, even 30 years later is remarkable and the car remains looking very sharp indeed.
Upon completion of the restoration work we shipped the car back to its owner in the US. The car subsequently changed hands in 2007 and was purchased by a member of the Jaguar Owners Club of America and used extensively for club events, culminating in winning “Best Restoration” at the Pacific Grove Concours in 2009 against over 250 competitor entries. When one considers that by this time the restoration was some 15 years old, this was a remarkable feat and speaks volumes for the quality of the original work.
In 2012 PSK731 returned to the UK and was purchased by its current owner. He commissioned us to convert the car to right hand drive and install power assisted steering. We have continued to care for the car ever since but now, due to advancing years, its owner finds himself using the car less and less and has asked us to help him find the next custodian of this wonderful Jaguar motorcar.
All of this provenance combined with a comprehensive history file including photographic evidence from the restoration and what appears to be every invoice for work carried out to the car from the restoration onwards, this car must surely be one of the safest classic car opportunities out there. A truly beautiful car which is a ready to be enjoyed this summer, this is probably the best fixed-head 150’s we know of.
