Description

1935 Lagonda Rapier Tourer

Appearing in 1934, the Rapier was Lagonda’s quality small car aimed at the popular 1100cc sector of the market. Featuring an all-new 1104cc engine with twin overhead camshafts developing an impressive 50 bhp, the new Rapier was available with a variety of coachwork styles, a large proportion of cars having bodies by E. D. Abbott. Ltd of Farnham.

The Tourer we offer here has been with the current owner for the past 24 years.

Noted for its good handling and vivid acceleration when road tested by ‘The Autocar’ in July 1934, the Rapier was fitted with an ENV preselector gearbox - a type of transmission much favoured by manufacturers of quality sporting cars at that time.

Restored some years ago, the car is in smart condition all round and has benefited from an engine rebuild 4 years ago which included high lift cams which give a noticeable boost to performance.

The coachwork has been tastefully altered in order to accommodate the spare wheel inboard, which gives a clean, swept appearance to the tail.

The weather equipment is in sound condition, as is the interior trim. It has a very good tonneau and hood-bag.

The car is supplied with a Handbook and Technical Manual, along with details of the engine rebuild plus a copy of the road test report and a buff RF60 logbook dating from 1946.
