Beschreibung

The Oxford MKV1 “Farina” was launched in 1961 and was the last in the line of Morris cars to bear the name Oxford. It was produced until 1971, the Austin, Riley and MG versions were dropped in 1969 but the Wolseley and Morris versions were kept on for two extra years. They were dependable and surprisingly good to drive but many have disappeared – their robust nature made them popular on the banger racing circuit when values were low in the 80’s.

This car is a 1970 Morris Oxford MKV1 in Damask red. It has was bought new from Twyford Garage, Reading in 1970 then laid up in 1972 for 18 years as its owner was working away. More recently, in 2017, it was treated to a comprehensive body renovation and re-paint, although completion of the restoration was stalled until the last owner bought it in 2018 and decided to complete the car with a long list of upgrades.

It is fitted with a fully rebuilt 1891cc MGB engine and matching overdrive gearbox. The engine re-build was comprehensive with new camshaft, bearings, pistons, oil pump, timing chain and sprockets and a fully re-built cylinder head with 9. 25:1 compression. In addition, it has fully re-built twin SU carbs, bespoke big-bore stainless exhaust system, super-core radiator, silicone hoses, oil cooler and various new and upgraded electrical items. The braking system has been overhauled with new rear wheel cylinders, new copper brake pipes and a genuine “Lockheed” servo has been fitted which has meant that the battery has been re-located to a custom built box in the boot. The clutch and prop-shaft are also new and a new aluminium custom made fuel tank is fitted with electric fuel shut off and fuel pressure regulator. The interior has been upgraded with various additional gauges and warning lights, a new carpet set, door cards, inner and outer door seals, new inertia reel seat-belts and the overdrive is operated by a neat steering wheel stalk.
The body restoration was carried out to a high standard; the paint finish is excellent, most of the chrome-work is new or re-finished and the cavities have been injected with “Dinitrol”.

On the road, this superb “resto-mod” drives beautifully, it sounds and goes like an MGB and the upgrades have transformed it into a swift and slick driving classic that can easily keep up with modern motorway traffic. The mileage is 63. 000 which looking at the history appears to be correct although we have just replaced the speedometer with a zero miles unit as the old one was giving an erratic reading.

It comes with two substantial history files including the original bill of sale, new and old log books, “buff” log book, original service books and various items of correspondence between owners.
