Description

THIS is my early Series II Morris Minor split screen which - take it from me - is definitely a lovely shade of dark green. I mention that at the start because when I look at my photos, they could lead people to think that the old girl is black. She is green!

She is a 1953 model and, as such, still carries the mesh "cheese grater grille". You will note the correct gold painted dashboard for the model, the split screen obviously and the original style Series II seats. She has been converted to a 1098 which replaced what would have been an 803cc engine. Likewise, and probably for safety reasons, she has the larger rear light clusters and flashers have been added.

So, what we have is a 1953 split screen with that highly desirable radiator grille and dashboard. She is in super condition and, as an added bonus, her underneath must not be confused with the many Minors out there whose underside has ben turned into a patchwork quilt. To me, it looks as though this car has been restored relatively recently as the underneath is in body colour and in remarkably sound condition. It is likely that she has also had new floor pans as they are un-welded, clean straight and in body colour. Spring hangers, inner sills etc are also in tip-top condition.

She also shows excellent oil pressure and, in one of my photos, I show the oil pressure gauge sitting at around 50 psi. This was after a 10-mile drive and with the slightest touch of throttle. Left to idle, she sits at 40psi even when warm!

This is a really cute little Moggy whose paintwork polishes up to a deep sheen. An example not to be missed.

Please remember that these classic cars are the equivalent of motoring antiques and cannot, under any circumstances, be compared to your new BMW. Go around them with a fine toothcomb and you will find faults. They all have them unless they are presented as concours! They all need ongoing love and care. They tend to leak oil in varying degrees. They may break down, play up or even present you with a mystery that takes some solving. But that is all part and parcel of classic car ownership. They are there to be loved and cherished like a family pet. They are our motoring heritage and should be treated as such. This old girl for example is now 68-years-old.
