When the E39 M5 was introduced in 1998 it was the first M5 to come with a V8 power unit that took the power from 315PS in the old to model to the 400PS produced by this BMW S62 V8 power unit. From the factory they restricted the speed on the car to 155mph however it could achieve a phenomenal 186mph unrestricted with a 0-60 being recorded as 4. 8 seconds.
