Description
This delightful and well presented M5 was originally registered in the US and purchased there by the present owner in 2006, he brought into the UK in 2009 and registered it here. He states.
” I bought the vehicle with 18, 000 miles. If I remember correctly, it now has 48, 000 miles?
I have therefore put 30, 000 miles on the vehicle and took it in for oil changes every 3, 000 miles. The manufacturer’s recommended intervals were too far apart for my liking. So in total, I have had about 10 oil changes on the vehicle. The necessary work was done at the proper mileage interval.
Other than oil changes, there were two major works performed on the car.
1. Work done at BMW’s expense on the VANOS system in about 2007 - BMW of Manhattan
2. Clutch replacement in around 2011-2012 - Hexagon BMW in Kentish Town
I moved car service from BMW of Manhattan, NY to BMW of Bloomfield, NJ. BMW of Manhattan was impersonal and I like to talk to the techs who service my car, just to get colour on anything they saw, heard or felt about the vehicle. I was introduced to a superb BMW tech by name of Tibor Hosszou. He worked at BMW of Bloomfield and would always work on my car by request and would give me good feedback
After moving to London in 2009, the nearest dealer to my post code NW2 2HE was Hexagon BMW in Kentish Town. Like BMW of Manhattan, it was an assembly line, I could not get good feedback from the techs. A friend of mine used to take his BMW to BMERC. The owner was a man called Irfan. He was a big fan of the E39 M5, he would do the oil changes and we would chat.
Other than the clutch, and the VANOS work, the vehicle has never had a mechanical defect requiring repair.
The vehicle has been in storage since 2015
I believe that the airbags are currently on recall
The vehicle was babied. It was never redlined. It was never used for commuting. Start up engine rpm limits always adhered to. The longest trip I took with it was London to Berlin. There was also a trip to Spa Francorchamps for the F1 GP. So from 2006 to 2015, I put on 30, 000 miles. 3, 500 miles a year.”
This car is presented in outstanding condition and would grace either a classic collection or be an enjoyable regular transport. Of course, originally US supplied it will meet their stringent standards or perhaps you have a continental hideaway that would make the left hand drive a real positive.
Whatever when you look at the performance of an M5 BMW and then look at the luxury specification, you understand the true appeal of this modern classic - details above
