Utilabrake Workobus - Historic Vehicle – not liable to MOT, Tax and compliant, due to age, with London’s recently expanded Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ). A lot of these seem to have been used as transport around airports etc
Underwent a full and very beautiful restoration by the previous owner who was in the motor trade and owned a number of classic vehicles. There are a few areas that he had not completed before the family had to sell. I purchased earlier this year and got what was needed done for it to run safely (didn't have working brakes or fixed seats when it came to me) and needed servicing. Unfortunately my own circumstances then changed so very regretfully I haven't got to use as anticipated. It really is a beautiful and eye-catching vehicle looking for an owner who will appreciate it. The battery may be a bit flat but other than that starts, runs, stops.
Low mileage, 1507cc, previous owner had a reconditioned engine fitted.
Multiple potential uses - a rather unique people carrier, small business runaround (loads of space inside & a great advertisement), chauffeuring/ renting out as a classic vehicle for events & trips (subject to laws/ insurance including on seat belts).
I am reliably informed by garages that have seen it this year that the restoration work was done to a very high standard. Its condition is very good sealed (apparently hammerited) underneath. Some surface rust on roof, had been covered by a tarpaulin following its initial coats of paint but was not then finished with its top coat. I had the garage treat this to protect until top coat could be done. Some age related wear and tear to original seats. The ceiling surface is peeling (see photos). It looks like pieces of paper coming off (although is probably emulsion paint) which could be completely removed without much effort underneath it is a clean and white.
Work undertaken since owning -
Base made for driver’s seat to enable to secure safely. Fixed brakes including replacing brake cylinders.
Service and check over including new points, condenser, attaching speedo cable, fitting new horn, adjusting choke cable. Also fitted new engine cooling thermostat & temperature sender, new oil filter. Checked and adjusted tracking. Adjusted and bled brakes.
Found able to source required parts on internet either still being produced new or available secondhand. Should you require seatbelts these can also be obtained specifically for the Bedford CA in a variety of colours.
Paperwork all done to reclassify as Historic Vehicle – not liable to MOT, Tax and expanded Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) compliant due to age.
Outstanding -
The main job needed is the final paint finish. It seemed best to leave to the new owner as this is a personal choice which might depend on what type of usage is likely to occur. The previous owner seems to have made the change from maroon to a greyish blue which in all likelihood is closer to the original colour. The van comes with a tin of duck egg blue paint, presumably intended for the final coat, can’t guarantee whether enough to do job.
One wing mirror cracked while at the garage
Fuel gauge not working properly advised most probably the float needs replacing
Front passenger seat already has base so just needs fixing on
Engine has been tuned but garage advised would benefit from a carburettor clean
Please note the row of seats behind driver etc is fixed but the inward facing seats are not.
