Ford prefect 100E
• Registered May 1958
• 3 former keepers
• Previous owner owned car for 20 years
• 1172cc side valve engine - as per original spec
• 3 speed box
• Believed to be a de-luxe due to glovebox locks
The registration is non transferrable and the old MOT certificates show the registration originally assigned to the car as 76 CKP and date back to 1992
The car has a mileage of 8, 259 which we cannot confirm is genuine mileage but judging by the smooth transmission and the sound of the engine, it definitely doesn’t sound or drive like it’s gone round the clock.
An MOT certificate with the car from 1992 shows the car at 6, 969 miles, so it’s a car which has been saved for high days and holidays for a long period of time.
The car is also fitted with an optional factory extra from the period, a body colour finish sun visor.
Assortment of old receipts acquired by the previous owner including various MOT certificates and other items including:
• July 2014 - renew headlining, door edge seals, door pulls and foot well panels
• June 2020 - rotor arm, contact points and condenser
• Book on how to run and maintain the Prefect, from the era of launch. Paperwork from runs and club events.
Whilst at The Motorist, the vehicle has been fitted with a starter motor and fuel pump as both were problematic on arrival.
The last MOT on the vehicle is from 2013.
Good points
- Gear change is smooth and there’s no jumping out of second as might be expected with a box due a rebuild
- There’s no smoking or knocking from the engine and it’s a lot more spritely than one might expect from a Sidevalve engine which is over 60 years old
- Diff isn’t whining
- Suspension is fine and the drive is pleasurable
- Interior whilst faded in points is in fair condition and could be enjoyed in its originality or retrimmed by the next owner
- The car is largely original and provides a great blank canvas to be used as is, taken to concours level or modified to suit owner’s tastes.
Points to consider:
- The paintwork is slightly blistered across the roof and on spots here and there, but this appears to be from poor storage opposed to corrosion
- There are small bits to work on including a faulty drivers door lock, intermittent indicators, tatty door edge seals and small rubbers and seals which would benefit the car in being refreshed
- Exhaust needs a bandage or to be repaired or replaced
- Rear light lenses and some chrome parts are perfectly useable but would need replacing/ rechroming to take the car to concours standard.
Overall this is an honest car and one which has bundles of potential to be used as is and enjoyed or to be taken to the next level through concours or modifications.
It’s becoming harder and harder to find these cars in an original state without a mountain of problems and we are certain prospective buyers will take this car for a drive and discover just why Ford was so famous for the five start motoring promise.
Plus with the price of Fords climbing year on year, these little cars will make you more money in your garage at home and enjoyed on sunny days than as pounds and pence in your back account.
