Unlike so many out there this car starts, runs and drives like a daily driver. Repainted 5 years ago and a new Robbins convertible top 4 years ago means it looks fantastic. I also sourced the correct factory wheels and wheel trims for that spot-on period look.
The car had already had a documented engine rebuild when I bought it and I have also had the C6 transmission rebuilt by known experts Alders Automotive. The convertible top was replaced by SM Trimming.
Stopping an older American car can be a challenge. Not this one. It comes with factory fitted vented disc brakes and 4 pot calibers up front and massive 11" rear drums at the back. You won't have any butt clenching moments unless you deliberately make them happen!
I sourced an original '66 T'bird carb in order for it to have perfect starting and running manners…just the way Ford intended. The old points and condenser were replaced in favour of a Petronix module so it runs reliably. As proven by my 200 mile round trip to the 2025 Beaulieu American Day.
Inside, the front seats have had new foams installed to restore their comfort. The repro FM/ AM radio cassette works well alongside the factory power antenna. The safety and convenience package on the dash was a factory option along with Highway Pilot cruise control. Unique factory Highway Pilot steering wheel only available on 'Birds with cruise control.
This 'Bird comes with a colour coded Sports Roadster hard tonneau cover installed. So you can choose the 2 seater look, or take it out and go for the 4 seater look.
Only two features don't work. The air conditioning and the Highway Pilot cruise control. Being a convertible I didn't feel the need to restore A/ C. The cruise control in these Birds is notoriously inaccurate and unreliable. This one needs a replacement pump, which are unobtainable. When the sun comes out, the top goes down! This is a great cruising or showing car which always attracts admiration. Many hours have been lavished on her to get her to this standard. Runs and drives with no issues. Temp gauge stays in the middle. Stops like a modern car with those big brakes. I have had many years of fun in this T'bird, but now it's time for a new custodian.
