Here we have a 1978 MG BGT 1. 8 The vehicle has been loved and cared for and even still has all of its original etched glass! It’s been under restoration recently but still requires some welding to the sills and new front wings to finish it.
I was in awe of the sheer amount of paperwork and spare parts that come with this car, there is every MOT from 1988 to present and very detailed service history to come with the car. There is even the original Leyland Cars Passport to Service with the original owner’s name on!
The vehicle was supplied new to a Mr. Scullion on 01/ 09/ 1978 from Bewac Motors Parkgate LTD in Coventry.
The vehicle was then cared for by David G Hedges LTD in Gloucestershire and there are substantial invoices for work carried out on the car. This lists a brand new engine, gearbox, clutch, gaskets, plugs, O rings and everything in between when the odometer read 66, 910 on 11/ 08/ 1992. The engine was a “Motorsport modified” and was later setup meticulously by Alcon Automotive LTD in Brierley Hill West Mids on 21/ 07/ 1993.
There are literally invoices from everything to wheel bearings to O rings in places. I have some photos of some of the documentation to go with the vehicle.
The vehicle is registered on the MGOC and there are lots of parts still in the box (totalling around £800 in value) that will go with the vehicle. All parts have invoices to go with them and have been sourced via MGB Hive. These range from new leads to jacking point sections and steering joints and chrome strip clips. There are also photos of the vehicle’s restoration from start to the stage it is at now.
The vehicle has had front brakes converted to the disc setup, also has the wire wheels on it, the vehicle has again had a recent engine overhaul to ensure it still runs the best it can. It has twin carbs fitted and has had all rubber parts replaced of late.
The condition of the vehicle body-wise seems to be well above the average of a vehicle of this age, it all seems present and correct and has new chrome everywhere.
Unfortunately while it has been parked on the street someone has hit the N/ S front and damaged the wing slightly.
Bad points:
-Would benefit from new tyres,
-Needs 2x front wings or them repaired as there’s slight rust on them and damage on N/ S from being bumped when parked
-Needs sills welding and new jacking points fitting (new jacking points in box to go with the car though)
-Part Canvas roof requires repair or replacement but has been taped neatly and is watertight
-Drivers seat upholstery has worn
Good points:
-All etched glass
-Engine runs perfectly, drives nice and quiet and smooth and is responsive
-Wire wheel conversion
-Front brakes upgraded
-MGBGT 1. 8 motorsport engine fitted and has only covered around 60k miles
-Paint has had a refresh so looks bright
-All chrome present
-Loads of spares in packaging to go with the vehicle from chrome wiper arms and blades to jacking points to steering joints to chrome body clips and much more.
-Full service history and receipts for all work carried out, including all MOTs from 1988-present.
-MOT and Road Tax exempt
So all in all, this would be a fantastic classic car to enjoy in the summertime and an easy project for someone with a passion for the MG franchise. The vehicle is essentially a rolling project but it requires just cosmetics as mechanically it is fantastic!
