The Alfa Romeo 90, also known as the Novanta, is a sedan of the Italian car brand Alfa Romeo that was introduced in 1984. The Alfa Romeo 90 was positioned between the Alfetta and the Alfa 6.
The chassis of the 90 came from the Alfetta, and the appearance of the 90 also had much in common with the Alfetta twelve years older. Bertone took care of the design and the 90 was made slightly more angular and modern than the Alfetta. The 90 got a dynamic front spoiler that came down from 80 km/ h and provided extra cooling of the engine and extra down pressure. The interior of the 90 was made more luxurious compared to the Alfetta. Striking on the dashboard of the Quadrifoglio Oro version (golden four-leaf clover) was that the speed and rev counter were not round, but went up diagonally. An attaché case was available as an option. This one fit right in the glove box.
The Alfa Romeo 90 belongs to the transaxles, the engine in the front, the gearbox just in front of the rear axle and drive on the rear wheels. The 90 was available with six engines. The entry-level model was the four-cylinder 1779cc engine with 120 hp. In addition, a 1962cc engine with carburettors and a 1962cc engine with injection were available, both producing 128 horsepower. The injection engine had to be more economical with the fuel, among other things through an (inlet) camshaft adjuster and the computer-controlled injection (Bosch Motronic) in combination with the econometer on the dashboard with which one could keep an eye on the consumption. The Alfa 90 could also be obtained with V6 engines from the Alfa 6: a 1996 cc V6 with 132 hp and a 2492 cc V6 with 156 hp. The latter went through life as the Quadrifoglio Oro. The car was also available with a 110 hp 2393 cc turbo diesel.
In 1986 the Alfa 90 got a facelift with the 90 Super. A year later, the front-wheel drive 164 succeeded the Alfa 90.
