We last sold this MG TD in 2017 and we claimed it to be one of the best driving MG TD’s we’d owned. The car returns from Suffolk after five years and we can say the same, it is truly glorious on the road. 837 YUA doesn't drive like the average TD out there, whilst it has all the usual 1950's characteristics, it just feels so much stronger and reliable, and is particularly easy to drive with an effortless feel. The car has many impressive upgrades such as a five speed gearbox, alternator, electronic ignition, and adding to the upgrades is a recent full restoration so this car feels tight, sharp, responsive, and most certainly better than a brand new one in 1953
This MG TD was brought into the UK around ten years ago and was subject of a comprehensive restoration. On arrival into the UK the MG was fully stripped down and the wood frame rebuilt as required. The main body rails, A posts, rear body rail, under dash and main dash section were all replaced with new timber. A brand new Ford Type 9 five speed gearbox along with a new propshaft, pedal box, RHD steering rack and full wiring harness were fitted and the engine stripped, checked and treated to new cam followers and camshaft.
Mechanically this TD is still first class and when we last sold it, had new brake seals all round, new brake cylinders, new master cylinder, new brake reservoir and new brake shoes front and rear. The TD also had all new flexi brake pipes, new handbrake cable and further mechanical improvements to include new exhaust mountings, new electric fan, electronic fuel pump, electronic ignition, new fuel lines, rebuilt carbs and alternator. Over the past five years with its recent owners, it's had excellent maintenance with records of a new Stealth dynamotor, replacement rev counter gearbox, re-conditioned wiper linkage, new SU electronic fuel pump, new braided fuel line and regular servicing.
837 YUA is beautifully presented and was treated to a high quality re-paint in Old English White when first arriving us several years back. The body was structurally excellent on arrival in the UK and required no metal work or welding. The body was flatted down, professionally prepared and finished with a stunning glass finish. The underside was steam cleaned and painted, chrome work largely very good and only required replacement over riders. The interior was fully re-furbished with new foam bases, brand new Green leather, dash cover, door and side panels and new carpets. A new double duck Tan hood was fitted, and the MG also comes with as new sidescreens and full tonneau cover.
After five years of summer use, regular good weather touring the TD returns to us in impressive condition. The car is still beautifully presented, is terrific to drive with excellent handling, a strong engine delivering impressive performance and the new five speed gearbox really enhances the drive at higher speeds. Since rebuild the TD has covered just a few thousand miles and is ready to go, prepared and on the button.
