1965 BIG BLOCK CORVETTE COUPE
1965 was a turning point for the Chevrolet Corvette. In the quest to build the best sports car money could buy, The engineers at GM improved the Vette with standard 4-wheel disc brakes and a massive engine option.
That option was the 396 Cubic Inch "Big Block". It conservatively put out 425 Horsepower.
It is well known that the HP numbers were always conservative as insurance rates were set by Horsepower. The Marketing department did not want to scare any potential customers away because insurance was too high.
In the meantime, the L-78 option was quite popular although somewhat rare with only 2, 157 being produced.
Nevertheless, this was a fantastic option that was an incredible performance upgrade over the Small Block 327.
Our example comes to us for the 2nd time. Both times, it arrived out of a collection and was sparingly used.
All numbers appear to be correct and it shows in an older restoration condition.
The extremely handsome Glen Green is a wonderful non-descript color that was the 2nd most popular in 1965 with 3, 782 Vettes produced in this color.
The optional Green leather was very rare and only offered in 3 different color combinations.
This car was also ordered with the Teak Wheel and Telescopic Steering Column.
Unfortunately, we have very little documentation but the knock-off wheels, although recreations, look to be the original option.
It is a great driver and has been stored only with the best fuel.
Today she runs and drives with such raw power, you will be smiling ear to ear behind the wheel.
