BOW 401C is an original right-hand drive, UK home market Austin Healey 3000 MkIII Phase II built on 10thDecember 1964 and despatched to the well-known Healey dealership Carey and Lambert Limited of Southampton later on the 16th. The car has a unique triple taillight setup seen only on a very limited series of original crossover cars for the MKIII as well as some of the works race cars, understood to be original.
Whilst this car is not an immaculate just restored example (the car does have some paint defects which can be seen in the gallery pictures) it has been tremendously well maintained with much work by ourselves and is presented at a fair price for a great driver. Works include a full engine rebuild by us to fast road specification including new pistons, lead free conversion, upgraded camshaft, lightened flywheel and more. The car has covered just under 10, 000 miles since and has very recently also received a major service from us including new Blockley tyres plus the addition of a Revotec electric fan installed for touring on the continent!
To drive BOW 401C is superb, the engine provides excellent upgraded power and has a sonorous exhaust note. The gearbox is smooth, quiet and precise. Brakes are spot on and the car rides decently.
Externally there are some scratches and early signs of deterioration to the paint and chrome however general panel fit and shape is overall quite excellent and original. The roof is in very good condition as is the hood bag and tonneau.
Inside this Healey retains its original interior which does have some repairable defects but largely in remarkable shape for a 57-year-old interior. The carpet has been more recently replaced and is very presentable. Wet weather gear is good and the roof does fit snug with no gaping holes seen on some of the newer kit products.
