This very rare Appia Van was imported from Italy in the summer of 2013. It is believed to have belonged to a furniture maker near Milan. Restoration was started some years ago. The paintwork was stripped back. new floors and sills were welded in as well as some bodywork and rear spring hanger on the nearside. The offside corner and spring hanger still need to be finished. Although covered in surface rust it is in extremely solid order. It has alloy doors and bonnet which are in excellent condition. The front seats and door panels are in nice original condition. We believe it is 98% complete, the alloy trims, glass and trim parts come with the vehicle however the windscreen and headlights are missing. The wheels have been refurbished and are shod with unused Michelin Super Comfort tyres. It is U. K. registered with an age related number plate and V5C document. It is historic so road tax free and MOT exempt. Believed to be one of only three such vans in the U. K., this is a fabulous opportunity to purchase an extremely rare vehicle for easy restoration, in Concours condition it would also be very valuable.
These Furgoncinos were produced from 1954 through to 1959. In total 2850 were made. 1219 of which were the more desirable 2nd series. The engine is a narrow angle V4 of 1090cc producing 36. 5 bhp taking it to a top speed of 65mph with a five speed column change gearbox. The engine was designed by Vittorio Jano who also designed racing engines for Alfa Romeo and Ferrari. This example was two tone grey with a red diagonal stripe across the radiator.
