This is an opportunity to purchase what has become a rarity on UK roads. A Fiat 124 Saloon that without too much work can be brought up to concourse condition. This is a one owner from new car and has been garaged its entire life.
Date of first registration in the UK was: 16/ 02/ 1971. However the car was purchased by my father in Germany in June 1968. When he returned to the UK in 1971 he subsequently registered the car, hence the 'K' suffix letter. This car was ordered as a RHD spec vehicle but came with a speedometer in KMs. The current mileage is 41, 608 KMs (26, 000 Miles).
Also present is HP credit agreement paperwork dated 12 Jun 68 which helps to verify the age of the vehicle.
The car is 1197cc with a 4-speed manual gearbox and is rear wheel drive with disc brakes all round.
The 124 was my fathers pride and joy and was the first and only car that he'd ever bought new. As you can see from the photos, he‘d spent many hours installing car accessories, such as clocks, gauges and various driving/ fog lamps. A Jaeger clock was installed as well as a Blaupunkt Autoradio Köln (purchase receipt and installation guide are present). He was fastidious in his craftsmanship as he was an aircraft technician by trade and everything was done to perfection.
The car has low mileage and was seldom used and always garaged. It was last registered for use on the road in 1984 but the engine was periodically run up until 2011.
As to be expected with any vehicle that has been laid up for an extended period, some work will be required to get it running. Given that this is a historic vehicle, a sympathetic approach to recommissioning it back into service will be required. For this reason it would be prudent to collect the car with a trailer or recovery type vehicle. The car does roll freely and can be pushed around with relative ease.
My father had various spares in the boot (some used and some new). Amongst them are:
Holley Carburettor / Exhaust Manifold / Cylinder Head / Water Pump / Distributor Caps / Headlamps and two extra spare wheels.
The car is in very good condition for its age and is original apart from the afore mentioned accessories and a Westfalia towbar.
The car is coming up to 54 years old and is tax and MOT exempt. It certainly doesn't look its’ age and I'm sure it still has many years of life ahead of it. The paintwork is still good and presents well as does the interior. My father had in the past done some work on touching up the sills and this will require completion. Most of the chrome is still looking good as are the stainless steel Fiat window shields. The rear bumper has chrome pitting as does the lower wing mirror mounts.
V5C is present with both sets of original keys along with the original owners manual.
You are more than welcome to come for an inspection and I strongly encourage you to do so. A one owner car like this doesn't often come up for sale and if you’re after a piece of Fiat motoring history, then look no further. The car recently featured in ‘Meet The Owner’ (by Andrew Roberts) which I'm sure you will find very interesting.
