This is an original right-hand drive, original Healey Blue Metallic and Ivory Duotone Austin Healey 3000 MkII built December 1962 and first registered on 5th April 1963 (the original registration 787 COO is retained). Now a very usable and much upgraded Healey, this wonderful and up together example is ready for long road trips and will deliver its new owner great pleasure.
In 2018 the current owner embarked on a £30, 000 total mechanical overhaul that is so comprehensive we must now divide it into three district paragraphs of the engine, gearbox/ axle and suspension/ steering. In short this means the entire drivetrain, suspension and steering of this Healey has covered around 3, 000 miles since respective specialist rebuilds and fitment of desirable, enjoyment and reliability boosting upgrades.
Engine
787 Coo has benefitted from a comprehensive specialist engine rebuild to fast road including: upgraded camshaft, new 2” SU carburettors, new exhaust inlet manifold, new 6 branch exhaust manifold, new Rawles Motorsport side exhaust, new oil cooler, new electronic ignition, new high-torque starter, new dynalite dynamo look alternator, new electronic ignition, new aluminium backplate, new crank seals, porosity kit, rear main oil seal upgrade. At the same time the car also received a new fuel pump and fuel lines. Fast road specification engines such as this deliver around 30% more power and torque across a broader and more easily exploitable rev-range with additional benefits of reliability and smoothness from balanced internals.
Gearbox/ Rear Axle
The gearbox and rear axle have both been very well taken care of with total overhauls by a Healey specialist ensuring smooth operation and power delivery. At the same time a new clutch was installed plus a works-style gear lever which is a little more ergonomic than the factory location on the dash.
Suspension/ Steering
787 COO is a very sharp handling Healey thanks to a Denis Welch steering box, upgraded 4-piston vented front brakes, rear disc conversion, new kingpins, new rear springs and shackles, front ride height calibration, new brake lines and flexibles, new Aluminium Silver MWS 72-spoke wire wheels and Michelin XAS tyres.
Moving inside this Healey has not been skimped on either with new Navy carpets with Navy binding from a Healey upholstery specialist, new Navy leather seats with Navy piping in 2017, full dynamat sound proofing and thermal insulation for added refinement, a new Navy everflex tonneau cover and LED instrumentation lights plus a cigar lighter/ power outlet.
Externally the car is in very good order, complemented by many recently refurbished or new fixtures such as the Aluminium Silver wire wheels. Paint has a good shine and depth to it albeit with some age and usage related marks that will not disappoint an owner realistic about using their car. LED headlights and full exterior lighting stealthily retain an original aesthetic while further boosting night-time usability.
Supplied with MOT, British Motor Heritage Certificate of Authenticity, large paperwork history file, spare mounted fuel reservoir plus jack and hammer.
