In 1979, the Italian studio Pininfarina were given the delicate task of modernising the XJ while retaining its DNA. This was a success and allowed Jaguar to re-launch the model until the end of 1987
The XJ 4. 2 is still powered by Jaguar's iconic in-line 6-cylinder engine. Multi-point electronic fuel injection now replaces the carburettors.
This Jaguar was rescued from the scrap heap a few years ago. A lot of points have been revised such as: Bodywork, floor, paint, leather, electrics, tanks, tyres, shocks, disc brakes and pads, engine tune-up and overhaul.
It is not perfect but it looks and runs very well. The gears shift without a hitch. We have not noticed any suspicious smoke. The oil pressure is normal. The brakes are soft but consistent with this model.
Behind the wheel, the luxury and voluptuousness of the Jaguar of this period will charm you for sure. The smoothness of the engine and the suspension will encourage you to stroll on the country roads.
