MOTODROME ARE CLASSIC LAND ROVER SPECIALISTS – SEE WEBSITE FOR FULL STOCK

motodrome are pleased to offer, on behalf of the owner, this 1972 Range Rover Classic 3-dr V8 running and driving project

It’s fitted with overdrive, power steering, and the correct Rostyle wheels.

Full disclosure time: the owner was under the impression that this is an original RHD UK supplied early Range Rover, with a sought-after ‘Suffix A’ chassis number, first registered 14/ 04/ 1972, that’s in very sound restorable condition following him finding it as a classic ‘barn find’ some years ago.

On examination, whilst I’ve no reason to argue with his assessment that it’s intrinsically sound and eminently restorable, I think, on examination, that it’s, at best, a later bodyshell that has, at some point, ‘acquired’ the identity of a 1972 Suffix A. Personally I think the bodyshell is Suffix F at the earliest, and the original colour of this shell is, happily, the iconic Lincoln Green.

Also, at some point it’s been fitted with the 3. 5V8 engine from a 1977-84 Rover SD1, with header exhausts and performance air filters. The original air box assembly is with the car, and we also have a spare pair of doors which, while I haven’t inspected them closely, were bought by the owner on the basis that the frames were less rusty than those currently fitted.

Odometer reading 38000 miles (which should obviously be disregarded) and it’s recently undergone a fair amount of recommissioning work including: new fuel tank, new oil pump, new coil and plugs, stripped and rebuilt carbs, new lines etc.

Whilst it runs and drives, I have found it difficult to start when hot on a couple of occasions, which only adds to my insistence that this is best described as a project vehicle, but one that, in my opinion, could be returned to the condition it deserves without breaking the bank.

I would recommend that it’s trailered away rather than driven, or we can deliver nationwide at extra cost.

I would also recommend that potential buyers have the vehicle professionally inspected before purchase as, once it leaves us, we will not entertain any complaints about it’s structural or mechanical condition etc. We’ve done our best to highlight any areas of concern etc in our video, but that’s no substitute for a total stripdown.

On our own website, you’ll find our usual 2 videos: a walkaround appraisal, and driving impressions
