Description:

We are delighted to offer for sale a Royal Range Rover L322 in a most pleasing, totally bespoke colour, reminiscent of Balmoral Green seen on Range Rover Classics of the mid 1980’s.

It is a vehicle of extraordinary provenance, care, and maintenance, having been owned by the Sultan of Oman, Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said who ruled the Sultanate from 1970 until his death in 2020.

A fellow graduate of the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, Sultan Qaboos had a strong connection with the United Kingdom, an affinity for its motoring heritage and collected many British marques during his almost 50 year reign. Land Rovers and Range Rovers in particular featured heavily.

Aside from the obvious, (the bespoke colour specified by the Royal Household), other small touches of its previous Royal duties and personal choices include the interior, which is appointed with Sultan Qaboos’ tailored and chosen seat covers, seen on many of his vehicles.

They compliment the exterior hue extremely well and provide the added benefit of 20 years of protection for the leather upholstery found underneath which is understandably in excellent condition. Continuing on this theme, even the carpets have hard wearing translucent covers which likewise, have preserved the floor matts very well.

Another personal specification for touring Oman to visit his subjects and go on Royal hunting trips was the addition of a factory Land Rover brush bar or bull bar, with spot lights. These are extremely rare.

In period, it was common to see the front bar adorned with water sacks or desert water bags made of traditional hemp which, being microscopically porous, kept drinking water cool on long journeys as fast moving, cooler air passed over the damp outside of the bag, cooling the water inside.

This example, a 2006 model with just 64k miles, is powered by the respected and robust AJV8 4. 4 naturally aspirated Jaguar engine and mated to a 6 speed ZF automatic gearbox.

Following purchase, we spent 5 days touring Oman in the vehicle, a very special experience indeed, and covered roughly 500 km with ease and comfort. Given the conditions in August, the ice cold air conditioning was essential and much welcomed. We have many driving videos of the vehicle should any prospective buyer wish to see them.

Having been extremely well looked after and garaged its entire life when not in use, the paintwork is exceptionally well preserved.

The vehicle is (very kindly) currently housed in a private collection, surrounded by an exquisite array of similarly impressive vehicles about 30 minutes drive from central Muscat. The owner of the collection, a true petrolhead, was the first Omani to participate in the Mille Miglia in a 1925 Type 23 Bugatti in 2019.

In summary, this is a unique and collectable low mileage L322 of Royal provenance in the most wonderful bespoke colour. A real head turner, it would make a very special daily driver that would be sure to attract admiration and start conversations with fellow enthusiasts. Equally, it would be a wonderful addition to a public or private collection.
