I am going to hazard a guess that this Standard Luxury Six estate is currently the only one for sale in the UK, and probably Europe!
The Standard Luxury Six, to give its full title, was the last throw of the dice for Standard-Triumph before the Standard name was dropped. The company took the Vanguard Vignale, but dropped in their new 2000 straight-six which was, in the very near future, to be the engine for the new Triumph 2000. A few badges were changed, a much better dashboard was created and with the superb 2 litre straight-6, there you had the Standard Luxury Six.
Less than 10, 000 were built before production ended in 1963 and the model is mega rare. Even more so indeed to find it in the estate variant which is what we have here. This car is in the most amazing condition and its rust-free bodywork will certainly surprise most people. It's a great looker and a superb design (in my view). You will note the tailgate dropping down and the rear window lifting upwards to allow such great space for loading. She is totally rock solid and has a super interior. She is a 4-speed manual floor change with overdrive (factory option). That is currently not working but I have been told that it is a problem with the solenoid/ wiring. At least you know it is there!
This stylish Standard is super cool. A 60s estate car at its very best and ever so well engineered. I drove it around ten miles today and it performed admirably with excellent oil pressure and bags of poke.
My classic cars are motoring antiques. Please do not confuse them with your one-year-old Range Rover. This car, for example, is 61-years-old and so will have quirks and faults in there somewhere. These are not always apparent when buying and selling classics which is what I do. I do not restore them, nor do I pretend that they are concours cars. The majority of them go out as they came in, and I continue to enjoy finding more - a skill which is becoming increasingly difficult as many of you will be aware. They deserve to be taken on as "family pets" and cared for through thick and then. They don't make them any more and demand now out-strips supply.
