Spitfire Mk3 – Very Original/ Overdrive/ Wire Wheels
The Triumph Spitfire was introduced at the London Motor Show of 1962. The stylish body was designed by Giovanni Michelotti while the running gear was based on the Herald. Although more expensive than the Midget/ Sprite the design, linked to good performance, proved extraordinarily successful.
The Mk3 introduced in March 1967 was the first major facelift. The car retained the flowing lines of the preceding models with a larger engine, improved performance and fully folding hood that was much easier to use.
Milestone Classics are delighted to market this stunning Triumph Spitfire Mk 3 with, in my opinion, one of the best combinations of British Racing Green, black leather with white piping trim seats, wire wheels & overdrive gearbox.
The Spitfire was restored by her long-term owner, an elderly gentleman, some years ago and only sold because of health reasons after a period of time in storage.
The Spitfire has been recommissioned:
· Full service
· Brakes, Carburettor & Ignition overhauled (electronic ignition kit)
· Rear springs & differential seal kit
· New clutch & slave cylinder
· Starter solenoid & dynamo overhauled
The structure of the car is remarkable with no corrosion and the older restoration has stood the test of time very well. The engine bay is as nice as the bodywork with body colour bulkhead/ under bonnet. Chrome work is original and has a nice patina that would be lost with reproduction bumper blades.
On the road the car drives as good as she looks providing an utterly engaging 1960’s driving experience and the overdrive gearbox means she copes well with modern driving conditions
The interior has been upgraded with leather seats (black with white piping) and carpets, hood dash etc. are all good
The ‘Spit’ comes with a small history folder containing driver’s handbook, V5, old MOT’s, invoices etc.
The Mk 3 Spitfire is arguably the most desirable of all the Spitfires with the flowing Michelotti lines, larger engine & folding hood. Ready to use and enjoy, we recommend early viewing in order to fully appreciate this little beauty.
