Here we offer the rare opportunity to acquire what is now regarded as the Holy Grail of the Ducati 916 series. A very early Ducati 916 Strada Varese Monoposto and one of only 90 examples that were brought to the UK market. These bikes were produced in 1994 at the Cagiva Research Centre in Varese with only 1, 451 examples being produced worldwide between late 1993 to early 1996.
Our UK example, 1st registered 17/ 06/ 1994, is in immaculate condition, easily the best we have ever seen. It has covered 14, 270 miles from new and is supplied with the two original keys, leather wallet with the original handbook and service book and a host of invoices and receipts. The bike was last serviced (including belts) in August 2020 and will receive a further belt service and 12 months MOT prior to sale.
It is well documented that this motorcycle changed the way of motorcycle design. The 916 regarded as the most beautiful motorcycle ever built and without doubt the most important model created at Ducati. However, this project almost didn't happen, a disaster at Ducati HQ in Bologna, fire breaking out just after the 916 launch meant that production had to be moved to the Cagiva Centre in Varese where these bikes were built mainly by hand using many parts from the 851 and 888 and are now recognised as the highly sought after 916 "Varese".
