This lovely Riley RM has arrived with us from regular customers of ours in Norfolk. First registered on the 14th May 1947, the Riley was supplied new Ireland and assembled by G. A Brittain, Portobello, Dublin. The car was supplied new to a Mr Goulding in the City, and subsequently had two further owners in Dublin before coming to the UK in 1957 when ten years old. In the UK, the RM spent most of its time in the Bristol area with a long term owner. This early RMA is a matching numbers cars, retains its original Irish registration mark and even retains a Shamrock etched into a window, marking its early Irish heritage.
By the 1990's the RM was in need of restoration and a photographic record supplied with the car shows the car being stripped down, with the body off the chassis. The Riley was then subject of a full ground up rebuild that took five years to complete. The rebuild included an engine rebuild, body restoration and full re-trim. MOT records show the cars mileage records since the major restoration, and almost 30 years on since the restoration began, the Riley has covered around 10, 000 miles.
Invoices are on file for maintenance over recent years and the Riley has arrived with us on the button, driving well. These round dial early models are particularly sought after and this example is an honest, usable example that can be driven and enjoyed without hesitation. The Riley has a nicely aged patina, has an excellent body with excellent chassis, a tidy 1990's re-trimmed interior and on the road handles well with good road holding, very well performing engine and smooth four speed gearbox. Good value, and great usable RM.
