This engine used stainless-steel head gaskets for improved durability and sealing, a revised ignition system, and a metallic catalyst in the exhaust system. The new and improved motor turned the Porsche Turbo 3. 3 into the world’s fastest-accelerating production car, bar none. Car & Driver declared the Turbo 3. 3 “a rocket ship” that could hit 60 miles per hour from a standstill in just over four seconds and fly through the quarter mile in 12 seconds at 108 mph.
