Description
The 911 Super Carrera was introduced in 1978 replacing its 911 and Carrera predecessors as a new reliable sports car. Its all alloy 930-derived naturally aspirated engine would no longer be prone to pulling of cylinder head studs as was its older magnesium version. Fitting larger crankshaft main and con rod bearings, Nikasil barrels and an 11-blade cooling fan, Porsche engineers set the basis for future tuning to greater compression ratios and output that deemed necessary to counter the added weight of safety and comfort features. Additional power and weight provisions entailed retaining Carrera’s wider rear fenders for larger rear wheel size and servo-assisted braking. A year later the output would be raised to 188 bhp for all non US cars by revised camshaft timing, ignition and timing chain idler arm tensioner. Notably the all steel galvanized body would receive body-colored headlamp rings, anodized black window surrounds and door handles as well as Fuchs alloy with polished rims over black centers. By 1981 the final and most tuned up version of the 930/ 10 engine would boast 204 bhp via an upgraded and reliable version of the Bosch K-Jetronic injection module. In 1983 the very last revision of the SC was released featuring an enhanced exhaust silencer, an efficient cabin heater and the option of rear seat belts.
The SC offered was produced in June of 1983 for the European market to offer 204 bhp and 267 Nm of output. It features some of the most sought after options including a passenger door mirror, an electric sunroof, a rear wiper, tinted glass and the light alloy 15 inch black rims. Most notably it was ordered in the exceptional shade of Platinum Metallic 655, a rare color that Porsche selected to apply to its Weissach Edition SC to commemorate its research and development center. In 2015 the SC was subjected to a cosmetic and mechanical restoration that included a full body respray, new leather upholstery in Braun as well as total engine and gearbox overhauls at a cost of over 10, 000 euros. It is now offered in stellar cosmetic and mechanical condition throughout with original manuals and certificates of authenticity by Porsche and FIA.
