Beskrivning
The Triumph GT6 MK3 was launched in 1970 with an entirely new body shell and styling similar to the MK1V spitfire. Better aerodynamics and 105bhp allowed a top speed of 112mph making it significantly quicker than the MGB.
Here we have a Triumph GT6 in its original colour of Damson which is more or less unique in terms of provenance, with just one owner and a correct 31k miles from new. The speedometer failed at 29k miles in 1992 and was replaced with a new unit, now showing 2k miles - the original unit is with the car. The first and only owner, now deceased, moved abroad and used the car occasionally on visits to the UK until the 90’s when it was placed into dry storage. The car comes with a wealth of documents from the early part of its life including the original bill of sale from “B. E Cocks Ltd” of Cambridge, various old MOT’s from the 70's through to the 90's, original "passport to service" and the old style registration document showing no previous - which matches the DVLA record.
We have just carried out a re-commissioning - it’s had new front callipers, various brake and fuel pipes, engine service, new brake and clutch master cylinders plus a long list of minor replacement parts. The body, interior and mechanical are all excellent in keeping with a car that has covered such a low mileage. The interior is outstanding and original, right down to the carpet set. Clearly there is no rot and it’s never been welded.
The panel fit is excellent and the paint finish is very presentable (as you can see from the photos) but it’s slightly brittle on the roof and rear wings and there are various minor imperfections. A partial re-paint (or perhaps flatting and lacquering of areas) at some stage in the future would take this car to the next level - that being said, this should be a £20k car with some improvement.
We have just carried out some test miles and it’s running and driving well with a sweet, crisp engine note and it starts instantly. Everything works including all of the electrics and the overdrive but it will require gentle use at first as it’s covered less than 200 miles in the last 20 odd years.
It comes with original toolkit, spare keys and an interesting history file.
Clearly superb value for a car with this provenance.
