What a lovely looking car this is, completely solid with the most unbelievably solid underside, chassis and sill’s (see pics & video), just woken from a long-term slumber, same owner for 48 years, always owned in the same 10 square mile location just inside the M25 North East London area and showing just 44543 miles.
This is car No 345 of 412 from the very first production of this model all of which were apparently supplied as dealer new model demonstrators, it’s understood to be the earliest known surviving example of this model and the only one of the first 412 released from the factory, these early cars had different back lights and a smaller rear window.
The entire car is in remarkably solid condition throughout, please, please ask to see the video, it shows the underside in detail, you’ll be completely amazed, no welding or repairs needed, its is rock solid, any inspection openly welcomed. Both doors, the bonnet and boot open and click shut, the windows and quarter lights operate as they should. No rips or damage to the seats or headlining, untouched original dash with a charming period heater, door cards and carpets could do with refitting properly, but they are acceptable.
It starts on the button and runs like a Swiss watch, just needed fresh petrol pulling through and off it went, clutch now free and working as it should, we have driven it around the yard, no clunks, bangs, rattles or other unhappy noises from anywhere (see video), hand brake is very good, foot brakes need attention (not yet looked at them, might be stuck pedal like the clutch was). Some of the lights are working, again not yet had a fiddle.
Looking at the large file of accompanying paperwork, the current long term owner did a lot of refurbishment in the early 90’s and then took it back to the original supplying dealers to mark its 40th birthday, there are letters requesting “Fred” (her name for the car) being allowed to return for a birthday picture.
First registered on 7th Dec 1953, five owners documented on the old buff and current logbook, retains its original registration mark issued from new, tax and MOT exempt. Paintwork is aged, but charming, could very easily be refreshed or enjoyed as its stands with its unrepeatable patina.
In need of further recommissioning to fully awaken it from its long term rest, this really is one for the true collector, it’s an absolute gem of a find, with Ford classic prices going galactic it’s a no brainer and it doesn’t need to be said, but seriously, another one is NOT going to come along next week.
