1936 Austin 10/ 4 Lichfield
Introduced in April 1932, the Austin 10/ 4 underwent a restyle in August 1934, with the radiator now being enclosed by a cowl and the spare wheel was placed under cover, with the lid forming a luggage platform when required. Saloon, Cabriolet and open two and four seater tourers were available.
Capable of almost 60 mph and with a frugal fuel consumption, the Austin 10/ 4 was a well equipped small family motor car and was to prove remarkably durable with many still in daily use right through the 1960’s
Today, survivors are catered for by the enthusiastic Austin Ten Drivers’ Club, making these cars a very popular choice as a practical and highly useable small prewar car.
Presented here is a ‘Lichfield’ de luxe saloon, dating from 1936. In good sound running order and of very presentable appearance, this Austin has been well cared for with the engine being fully rebuilt by TIK Engineering of Fareham in 2016. The starter motor, dynamo and regulator have also been overhauled and the floors and some of the timber body framework has been replaced. The wheels have been shot blasted and powder coated and new tyres have been fitted.
All instrumentation is fully functional and this should prove an ideal first venture into 1930’s motoring for a very modest outlay.
