In British Racing Green with tan interior and green carpets.

The last owner of this SE5a, 3. 0 litre automatic, Scimitar bought it in 1998 for £100, and then carried a full restoration from the chassis up over the next four years.

His son, as part of his duties for the RAF, worked as a welder and he restored the chassis which remains in superb condition. The running gear was rebuilt or replaced and the engine received a full strip down and rebuild. The block was re-bored by Burton Power and the engine components were supplied by John Wade, including a V6 GT camshaft and a steel timing wheel. Capri 3. 0 litre cylinder heads were fitted to improve performance and hardened valve seats went in to allow the use of unleaded petrol.

Electronic ignition, an uprated alternator, a modified radiator and a Kenlowe electric fan were also installed. The bumpers were rechromed.

The bodywork was restored and painted by the owner. He then acquired an industrial sewing machine and his wife and himself completely retrimmed the car, including fitting a new headlining. The interior is still excellent, with no splits or tears.

For various reasons, the Scimitar was not used and remained in the garage for many years. It was revived in 2020 but was not running well, so the carburettor was sent away for a full rebuild. The car went back in to the garage.

We purchased the GTE a while ago and have carried out a thorough re-commission including a full overhaul of the wiring, brake and suspension fettling, draining down the fuel system and the fitting of new tyres all around.

This GTE is one of the very nicest driving examples that we have dealt with. It is smooth and powerful, the three speed automatic gearbox changes crisply and the engine ticks over nicely at the traffic lights, rather than hunting and stalling which can be the case. The brakes and steering are excellent and the car feels tight.

Inside is clean and shows no wear or fading to the trim.

BUT. Whilst the restorer of this car did a great job, painting was not his forte, and the paintwork has deteriorated, especially on the bonnet and roof. As you can see from the pictures, we have managed to create a nice shine on the car, but the paint finish has blemishes in it and is poor on the upper surfaces.

There are no cracks or star crazing on the bodywork.

A great SE5a Scimitar that drives superbly. One to use regularly or only in the dark.
