Description
Jaguar XK140 SE FHC, finished in Carmine Red with a beautiful beige leather interior and red piping. Following the success of the XK120, Jaguar introduced the XK140 which saw the introduction of several key improvements, including additional driver/ passenger space. Production volume of the fixed head coupe (FHC) were lower than the DHC and considerably lower in RHD, with the majority built in LHD for the US market. Of the 8937 XK140 produced, only 839 were RHD Fixed Head Coupes.
BACKGROUND
The stunning example was built in 1955 and purchased by the first owner as a retirement gift to himself. It has since passed through 5 further owners and currently presents 16, 165 miles on the odometer. Following a full body-off restoration in 2003 (images included), completed to an impeccable standard by Leaping Cats restoration, the vehicle has since covered circa 2000miles in 20 years. The history file comprises a folder of invoices for works completed over the years and a selection of old MOT's.
MECHANICAL
The William Haynes designed 3. 4 straight six in its standard form produced 190bhp. However, this SE model is fitted with the optional C-Type cylinder head, which included 2-inch sand-cast H8 carburettors, a big valve head, high lift camshafts, heavier torsion bars, twin exhaust pipes and produced 210bhp. With a top speed of 120mph and 0. 8mph in 8. 4secs, the XK140 delivered performance figures at the high end of 1950's sports car territory. Additions that the vehicle boasts include front disc brakes and an alternator. Overheating issues that can be typical of this model, have not been experienced once by the current owner.
EXTERIOR
The XK left the factory in Old English White, however was later reinvigorated in the beautiful Carmine Red during the body off restoration and has not seen so much as a wet road in the 20 years since. The paint remains bright, with only minor age related marks around the vehicle. New wire wheels were fitted during the restoration and the tyres currently fitted to all 5 wheels are less than 2 years old. This model is believed to be one of only 3 RHD FHC's ever produced with a Webasto sunroof.
INTERIOR
The interior on this XK presents superbly in beige leather over red piping, contrasting perfectly with the Carmine red exterior. The leather is in exceptional condition, as are the carpets, headlining, door trims and dashboard.
There can't be too many XK140's left in the condition of this one, let alone a highly sought after RHD FHC. Must be seen to be appreciated.
