1938 Riley 12/ 4 Touring Saloon
Date of first registration: 01/ 07/ 1991
Registration: EYE 942
Chassis Number: 28F7895
A former multiple concours winning car that still presents in very good condition and has enjoyed much usage from its current owner.
Restored by John Janes, the car has appeared at many events including winning car of the show at the London Classic Motor Show at Alexandra Palace in 1995.
Externally the body work is in excellent condition with deep blue paintwork and cream wheels. The brightwork also all polishes up well. The door hinges are free of any play as can be expected of the steel bodied cars of this period and the shuts are as close to ‘soft close’ as a Riley can be!
Inside the car is very comfortable with a spacious cabin and well padded seating. The blue leather upholstery is free of tears.
The car starts on the button and pulls well, cruising happily at 55mph but able to push a little further. The 12/ 4 engine and engine bay as whole is very clean and well presented and the preselect gearbox makes it very easy to drive with its centrifugal clutch.
With a larger boot and good cabin space, this Touring Saloon is ideal for just that but is also a very rare example now of a late 30s Riley model that would be welcomed at any Register event.
