For sale is a Riley Special project. The vehicle has already been given a new body. As is common for all Rileys, the radiator and engine have been moved rearward and the rear part of the frame altered. All modifications have been carried out as described in most known Riley books (these changes were also undertaken by hobby racing drivers in the 1930s). In England in the 1930s, it was common for car enthusiasts to let off steam on weekends at one of the many race tracks. This made Riley, originally a manufacturer of everyman sedans, take advantage and sold, besides sedans, also pure rolling chassis without a bodywork. Private drivers then took whatever lay around and built their own bodies for the race track. Those who pursued the sport more intensively pushed the drivetrain and seating position backward and altered the frame, as with this car, to the rear. The engine is a Riley 12/ 4 engine. It is completely dismantled and, as is always necessary for such an old car, must be completely overhauled. The same goes for the gearbox, with the option to purchase a Preselector gearbox at extra cost. Regarding the engine, the new owner can also decide to have the engine built by us in different specifications and configurations. The same applies to the gearboxes (obviously for an extra charge). The project includes the original 13" brakes, which have already been drilled by us for weight reduction. Axles are also included. Basically every part needs at least a check or restoration. Surely one or two small parts may be missing here and there; this should not be a problem, as we also have a fairly large stock of parts ourselves or good contacts all over the world.
The big advantage of cars from such eras is the simplicity of the components. With a little motivation and a bit of technical understanding or the will to acquire it, almost anyone can build such a car. Additionally, there are many books on the market in which almost all parts and builds are described. Also, I must not bother anyone with wiring!
This car offers a new owner the opportunity to enter the large and steadily growing Prewar scene in Germany and to participate in car meets at the Nürburgring with lap times on the Nordschleife and co and many other tracks in Germany and Europe
