Description

Challenger E Type FOR SALE.

Due to the lack of use over the last few years my challenger e type is for sale.

The Challenger is a GRP bodied (taken off a series 1 ) E Type Replica built on a galvanised spaceframe chassis designed by Frank Costin. The car is built using series 2/ 3 XJ running gear, including the IRS and XJ coil sprung front suspension.

I have owned the car since 2010, and during that time the following major work has been carried out, in addition to normal servicing:

· Modification of the standard challenger electrical system at the front to provide a relay and fuse system for dipped and main lights, side lights, engine fan, horn (front of car) to stop these electrics passing through main column switch. This enables better night lighting.

·   New 70 amp alternator fitted

·   2. 88:1 LSD rear axle fitted from an XJS along with refurbishing rear axle support frame and main components.

·   Overhaul of steering rack, new track rod ends.

·   Carburettors Rebuilt

·   New fuel hoses

·   Engine partial rebuild with overhauled series 3 head. New rings and bearings fitted at the same time.

The car drives well, although it would benefit from some work to the hood to improve weather tightness. I have some of the parts required for improving the hoods seal to the doors; however I have tended to use it during the summer months, in good weather with the top down. Thus the urgency for doing this work has waned somewhat! Current mileage is 12300, although this is likely to increase. I have owned the car since 2010, previously owned by a garage Proprietor since mid 1990's I think. The mileage was < 5000 miles at that time, and we have done a further ~7000 miles since.
This car drives very similar to a Jaguar E Type, however at a fraction of the running cost and without the problems of rust and corrosion. The replica is so good that most series 1 E type parts fit. Indeed we have had many compliments over the years on the condition of our E type.
