A truly exceptional 1966 MKIII Austin Healey 3000 in road/ rally specification. We are delighted to introduce this beautifully prepared car onto the market, ready for all manner of excursions, events and enjoyment.
This former USA Austin Healey BJ8 underwent a complete nut and bolt restoration into its current masterpiece just 10, 000 miles ago and is still in as immaculate condition. The car was registered in the UK in May 2013 after the build was completed. The car was also treated to a complete engine rebuild and upgrade only 1, 200 miles ago.
This is a no expense spared restoration with every detail finished to a remarkable standard. The majority of body panels are aluminium, including the works boot lid. The works style hard top is fibreglass
The engine is a Dennis Welch Motorsport fast road engine offering race-bred solutions to performance and reliability. The engine is highly specified and fitted with the following upgrades:
Fast road camshaft
Triple Weber carburettors
Remote oil filter
Electronic ignition
Ally sump and header (with sump guard)
High-torque starter motor
High-capacity radiator
The 4-speed transmission is smooth and responsive with the added benefit of overdrive on third and fourth gear. The upgraded performance is put down through a 3. 5:1 ratio differential and the car really pulls well from a stand still.
The fuel supply has been upgraded, now having an Alloy Racing Fabrications 80l custom tank, twin Facet electronic fuel pumps and Aeroquip braided fuel lines.
The handling performance of the car is also second-to-none having a complete chassis set-up built to 2 degrees negative, anti-roll bars front and rear, rally spec springs, polyurethane suspension bushes all round and uprated lever arm dampers.
The braking performance is equally as advanced now having dual-circuit servo-assisted disc brakes on all corners.
The interior provides ultimate support whilst still being comfortable and does not feel like a standard race/ rally replica having an attractive retrim and carpets fitted generously. The retro style bucket seats, TRS safety harnesses and collapsible steering column allow for extra support and safety and an enhanced racing atmosphere to the driving position. The car is equipped with a period style rallying map lamp, retro trip and a set of two Smiths stop clocks.
