Description
1972 BMW E9 3. 0 CS COUPE PROJECT
We have recently purchased this uber desirable BMW E9 coupe .
A UK home market supplied car that comes with a large folder of history including a dating letter from BMW Uk confirming as such .
This vehicle was in regular use up until just over 2 years ago when our customer decided to instruct a local restoration shop to repair the front wings as he had noticed some sinkage in the filler even though it was a beautiful car on the surface with no obvious rot . This unearthed some poor metalwork as both front wings had been very roughly patched across the tops and down the rear towards the sills also.
The decision was made to do a full no expense spared nut and bolt restoration and the car was meticulously stripped with every item clearly bagged and labelled to make any easy job of the rebuild process once ready.
Once it was stripped to a bare shell the shell was then placed on a jig and soda blasted to highlight any potential metalwork required . As a whole it is an excellent shell that is solid in most areas these are very very rotten! The floors, bulkhead, front and rear panels are all excellent and do not require replacement, as do the inner sills , window frames, a and b posts.
We have carefully inspected it and in our opinion it requires the following :
front wings repaired or replaced
3 small holes to the spare wheel well
repairs to both lower rear quarters (base of the valance at the rear of the arch)
both outer sills have been previously welded in places and ideally want cutting out and new sill covers to look perfect
front inner wings have had small previous repairs/ holes and ideally want doing neater
The shell has been treated to a coat of primer also so will not corrode whilst any repairs have taken place .
The engine has been stripped and chemically cleaned and is now ready for a full reassemble and a regrind of the crank was recommended (I need to check this may have already been done)
Various other works have also been completed include a rebuild of the alternator and a full strip and check over of the gearbox.
So far there are bills for some £10000 just to get it to this stage . This represents a great opportunity for someone to finish this at their own leisure and end up with a very valuable fully sorted e9 . The benefit being you know exactly what you are buying rather than an expensive restored car that you have no idea of the quality of the repairs or a more expensive car that requires restoration that you have no idea of just how bad/ good it is until you are too far into it.
We have circa 500 photographs of this car in all of its stages - pre strip, during blasting and repairs etc so any potential buyers can see the level of work that has already gone in to get it this far.
Additional photographs/ videos to confirm as such can be supplied and we are also happy to answer any further questions, we are professional classic car restorers and simply do not have the time for this one at the minute do to a large workload so will sit in our storage until we get round to it.
Happy to look at another classic or modern car in a deal if it helps.
We are located in north east england , ts postcode if you would like to view.
Transport can also arranged , written quotations available upon request
Many thanks for looking
