1953 Morgan Plus 4 - 4 seater
Rolled out of the factory during the week of the crowning of Princess Elizabeth in June 1953 and christened The Coronation Princess by Peter Morgan.
The car had 3 UK owners & was then bought in 1973 by an American Commander Charles Morris, a serving Air Attaché at various American Embassies in Europe. When Commander Morris had completed his assignment, he transported the car back to the USA in the hold of a transporter plane.
Whilst in the USA the car was rallied and was winner of many concours competitions.
In 1988 the car was bought from the then current owner - Mr Thomas Hooker an American Attorney at Law, by an experienced Morgan owner Mr Terry Hands-Heart.
The car was delivered to Brands Hatch Morgans where the then proprietor, Mr Rick Borne, was requested to give a no expense spared upgrade to the highest rally specification. This cost many thousands of pounds and all paperwork has been retained.
In 1989 the car was granted full FIA papers by RAC Motorsport.
Exchange of correspondence with Peter Morgan in 1989 when he agreed to supply parts on a sale or return basis for The Classic Rally.
The car was entered into many international rallies including:
1990 Pirelli Rally, 2, 000 miles - Belgium, West Germany, Austria, Norway.
1990 Pirelli Classic Rally, London to Italy 2, 000 miles - 106 entries and came 29th in this Rally - Timo Makinen was 18th and NYL 476 beat Roger Clark, Richard Clark and Paddy Hopkirk.
Also competed in:
Bridgend Directors Rally
Viking Rally - 2nd
French Earls Cup Hill Climb - 2nd
Longleat Historic Rally
Pirelli Classic Marathon
Auto Glass RAC International Historic
I bought the car in 2006 from I&G McDonald - Morgan Dealer & Race Preparation Specialist.
The car has been cherished, loved and driven on a regular basis for 17 years. Although it hasn’t been in competitive driving, it has won numerous concours events and is a pleasure to drive. The car was invited to Sandringham in 2022 as part of the Queens Platinum Jubilee Celebrations. The car is still suitable for competitive use if required.
My advancing years necessitates a reluctant sale.
