Jaguar XJS 6. 0 - M192VDO - Fully Refurbished - Japanese Import
This car was imported by Clarkes Jaguar - XJS Specialists in August 2005 and kept in their museum.
First Reg 01/ 11/ 94 - Japan 01/ 03/ 18 - UK (by Clarkes).
Mileage at import 114, 364kms (71, 078 miles). The car was fitted with a Mph Speedo by Clarkes in April 2018.
Current mileage is 72, 600 and change.
Background of the owner.
I am selling this car along with two other XJSs and a Lister Storm for a previous client. Further details on the other cars you'll find listed on my website, should they also be of interest.
It's fair to say that the owner is a 'Jag man'. The cars I'm selling for him only represent a few of his collection and if you look on the last page of the For Sale section on my website you?ll see one of his previous cars, a Lister Le Mans. One of several he owns.
As you'll see from that car, he is a highly skilled engineer and is very comfortable and knowledgeable when it comes to working on any XJS-derived models having fully rebuilt and modernised many of them over the past 20yrs.
Car Details.
When the car was purchased, it was already in what most people would describe as excellent condition, as you will see from the photos taken at the time of sale by Clarkes in 2018. However, wanting the car to be as close to perfect as possible it was completely stripped back, with the removal of all drivetrain and suspension components, interior etc. This then enabled all areas to be accessed and any repairs and improvements to be undertaken. To say that this was a comprehensive refurbishment is almost a disservice to the sheer scale and detail of the work undertaken. I have included a small selection of photos of the work in a separate section on my website, however there is a whole raft of digital photos that will be included with the car or can be sent to any potential buyer.
The cost of parts is covered in a detailed spreadsheet and runs to £11, 500, this doesn't allow for the many hours of time spent on the car.
A summary of the works carried out is as follows:
? Car stripped to the shell.
? Engine removed and all ancillaries refurbished.
? Axles removed and replated/ powder coated as required.
? Suspension removed, stripped and powder coated as required.
? New suspension units/ shocks fitted.
? All rubber mountings and ball joints were replaced.
? All bearings replaced.
? Stainless exhaust fitted with new low-loss catalysts and larger twin tips.
? Front seats retrimed.
? Any repairs required to the shell addressed while stripped and fully documented.
? Underside of the car stripped back and everything renewed as required.
? Engine bay painted due to brake fluid damage.
? New coach lines applied.
? Wheels upgraded to 1995 XJR - 8 x 17 alloys.
Fair to say that once you've seen the quality of this car, and studied the photos of the workmanship and finished product, should you be in the market for a late 6. 0 Coupe, this will be the one you'll want in your garage.
Service History.
The car comes with a documented Japanese service history and has clearly been well-maintained since Clarkes wanted the car back in 2005 for show purposes. It will have been maintained by their workshop during their 13yr ownership.
Since then, the owner has carried out the refurbishments as highlighted and has maintained the car in his own workshop.
Market Values.. and personal view.
XJS's are very much on the up, and you'll find plenty of independent articles that confirm that, so cars like this are a safe place to have your money one would have to think, and finding one in such a beautiful condition is not an easy undertaking.
From a personal point of view, as a man who grew up watching Simon Templar in his white Pre-HE XJS (I still very clearly recall getting the Corgi 1/ 36th scale toy in my Christmas stocking back in around 1978) I have always had a soft spot for these. I've driven this car 50 miles and it's rather lovely. Everything works as it should, A/ C is ice-cold and it's a joy to travel/ waft along in.
