Heart-stoppingly pretty, effortlessly elegant and forever ?en vogue?, the Mercedes Benz SL W113 is a favoured classic amongst enthusiasts all over the world.
The 250 SL was in production for just over 12 months, making it far rarer than its 230 predecessor and 280 successor. This UK supplied 250 is from 1968, and is one of a suggested 1, 388 produced in RHD.
Complete with its original factory Vehicle Data Card and registration document, it was supplied in March 1968 to a Lancashire printing company.
Three years later, the SL was purchased by a lady in North Yorkshire, and for the best part of the next 30 years, it remained within the same family?s ownership. It found a new home in 2000, and was purchased by its current custodian in 2014.
Accompanied by all its original books, including the service book, plus an extensive history folder of invoices and receipts. The paperwork indicates at least 23 services, specialist engine and gearbox work, plus 30 MOT certificates dating back to as early as 1975.
There is no doubt that SL has been exceptionally well cared for throughout its lifetime. Clearly, it has led a relaxing existence for the last 35 years or so, with minimal miles covered. Following its 2014 purchase, it has been driven just 2, 500 miles.
However, since early 2020, this SL has received an exceptional amount of investment in both time and money, with invoices totalling in excess of £40, 000. Initially addressing the parts you can?t see, with extensive repairs to the floors, sills and inner wings, followed by a full glass-out repaint in its original colour of silver metallic.
This SL is a superb combination of originality and sympathetic refurbishment. The pleasingly patinated interior and trim sits comfortably alongside the new paint.
Removing the iconic ?Pagoda? hardtop transforms the SL from a beautiful coupe to an equally beautiful roadster.
This SL is an absolute pleasure to drive. It cruises along effortlessly, thanks to the silky smooth 6 cylinder and 4 speed auto gearbox.
It is a classic that makes you feel very special indeed.
