In the 80s, under the ownership of the Fiat Group, it was essential to rescue Alfa Romeo's prestige, which culminated in the development of the curious ES-30 coupé, better known by the acronym SZ (Sprint Zagato). Based on the Alfa Romeo 75, this experimental model with a 3. 0 engine was created at Fiat's Centro Stilo in collaboration with Zagato and designer Antonio Castellana.
The ?brutalist? and futuristic style explored the use of panels made of synthetic and thermoplastic materials and caused a sensation at the Geneva motor show when it was presented in 1989. It quickly received the nickname ?Il Mostro? ? the Monster!
Dynamic function and efficiency did not lose out, as the distribution of masses between axles is favored by the front central engine and the rear-mounted gearbox with limited-slip differential. Interestingly, the rear brake discs were 'inboard' like the famous Jaguar E-Type.
Only 1036 examples were built and, outside of Italy, it was only sold and distributed by enthusiasts and specialists, and not through official Alfa Romeo channels, making this model very difficult to find these days!
The roadster version was limited to 278 units: 50 in 1992 and 228 in 1993. This Zagato Roadster, in Giallo Fly, is in excellent condition, which combined with its rarity, gives it the status of a collector's piece. It has only 27, 000 km, full maintenance history and four new Yokohama Advan tires.
