Ford Escort Mk1 Cosworth
This vehicle has been in the same family since the late 70’s, they are the second owner.
It lest the factory as a standard 1. 3 model when sold new here in Finland, since then it has undergone a few changes over the years.
1st modifications were caried out in the 80’s, which was the installation of the steel bubble arches, ducktail spoiler and front spoiler. Interesting fact about the arches is that they were supplied by a Ford dealer in Joensuu, Finland. The dealership was run by Matti and Heikki Kemiläinen who were rally drivers and had direct contact with Ford Boreham, the arches came directly from Boreham rally factory. They were fitted with instructions from Boreham, so these are the real deal.
It also had a 1600 Kent fitted from a Cortina GT, also better brakes. It was used as a daily driver until around 1982, when it was replaced by a new BMW 315. It was then put into warm storage and stayed there until 1995, so stored for 13 years.
In 1995 it came out of storage and was used for a couple of years, until returning to the same storge in 1997. 6 years later in 2003 it was moved to a different location where it was totally stiped in preparation for a total rebuild.
It remained striped until the rebuild begun in 2009. The body was in good condition and only required minimal rust repairs, it was then rust protected and painted in this lovely colour with slight pearl affect.
Modifications were kept as minimal as possible, idea was to keep the classic look with little more go. Engine bay seams are welded and added triangle supports to frame. World cup crossmember, big struts with disc brakes front and rear, pedal box. GT instrument cluster. Porsche 944 turbo seats.
Engine was at first was 2. 0 pinto with 5 speed type 9 gear box, 1-piece propshaft and English axle.
It was back on the streets in 2010. Driven a few times in the summer months only.
In 2015 a Cosworth engine was installed. Its a YB engine block with 4x4 intake, exhaust, con rods, and new pistons. Fully rebuilt engine and head. Stock engine management with stage1 chip, green injectors and so on.
It’s a fun car to drive and everything works well!
